With the announcement of the 'God of War III Remaster' on yesterday, Friday Sony is apparently far from finished recycling former PS3 hits.
Another remaster of 'God of War: Ascension' is reportedly in development at Sony Santa Monica, according to well-known industry insiders currently tweeting from Mount Olympus. schreibt The insider known as 'Shinobi602' claimed to have been in contact with someone at the studio who informed him that the series' prequel was also slated for release on PS4. He was therefore surprised that 'God of War III' was announced first. Upon further investigation, he discovered that 'Ascension' would also be released on PlayStation 4, but separately.
This is probably due to the fact that the work on the remaster was more complex than initially assumed, and it is not possible to develop both games simultaneously.
Some even speculate, somewhat far-fetched, that the release of the remasters could be a harbinger of 'God of War IV', which fans have been wishing for for years.
(Update)
As Santa Monica Studios has now stated, they have no plans to release any further God of War remasters for PlayStation 4. They see the fact that they are working on a remaster at all as an opportunity to attract new fans to the franchise who may have missed God of War III five years ago. And the more fans a franchise has, the better it is for everyone.
Is this actually a harbinger of God of War IV? Square Enix is already pursuing the strategy of building up the fan base on the new consoles with a Final Fantasy remaster before releasing the actual game, 'Final Fantasy XV'.
