Polyphony Digital will release the major "Hypercar Update" for "Gran Turismo 7" on June 11th. Included are the Gr.1 cars, four real WEC prototypes, and the official Safety Car.
The official announcement came, unsurprisingly, on the first day of the GT World Series in Milan. The package almost completely covers the most important category of the modern World Endurance Championship. Two LMDh and two LMH cars drastically change the grid in the game.
The end of the dry spell for long-distance fans

Porsche fans will get the 963, a classic LMDh racer on a Multimatic chassis. While the factory team is withdrawing from the WEC soon in reality, the twin-turbo V8 remains a fixture on the virtual track. BMW completes the quartet with the M Hybrid V8 based on the Dallara. It's the Munich-based manufacturer's first top-class prototype since the legendary V12 LMR of 1999. This is a perfect fit for the current GT World Series in Milan, where BMW is already dominating virtual qualifying. As a bonus, Polyphony is throwing in the official WEC Porsche Safety Car. Five cars in one fell swoop. Period.
Where is the Group 1 classification?
The official news release doesn't explicitly mention the term "Group 1" or "Gr.1" anywhere. But we don't need to be racing game experts to know where this is headed. These prototypes undoubtedly belong in the Gr.1 category. That's exactly where the LMP1 cars and modern Le Mans hypercars are classified in GT7. Until now, the class has been rather sparsely populated. That's about to change.
This update delivers exactly what the sim racing community has been clamoring for for ages. Polyphony is introducing four completely different manufacturer concepts. These cars will completely shake up the balance in the high-speed classes. A must-have for every virtual racer.
