Sony and Polyphony Digital have announced the end of the online service in Gran Turismo Sport It has been announced that the system will be shut down in January 2024. From then on, all online functions will be unavailable.
The simulation was released six years ago for PS4. In the meantime, the user base seems to have shrunk so much that continuing to run the servers is probably no longer worthwhile.
In an official Statement Sony writes:
"On January 31, 2024 at 06:00 UTC, the online services for the PlayStation 4 exclusive software Gran Turismo Sport will be discontinued. Prior to this, on December 1, 2023, we will also discontinue the distribution of purchasable add-on items from the PlayStation Store that can be used in the game."
After the service date expires, it will no longer be possible to use online services such as the community, open lobby, and sports mode, as well as online features/elements like custom paint jobs. Offline portions of the game, including purchased add-ons, will remain playable.
We would like to thank the many users of the Gran Turismo Sport online service since its initial launch in 2017. From now on, we will continue to improve the online services for the currently available title Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The full Gran Turismo experience is therefore still available in Gran Turismo 7 for PS5 and PS4.
