Microsoft is giving away the newly announced Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition to all attendees of the Xbox FanFest in Los Angeles. This was announced by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and Chief Content Officer Matt Booty following the Xbox Games Showcase.
The consoles will be shipped at the official market launch in November 2026. Microsoft has not yet revealed how much the average user will have to pay. The price for the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition is still a secret. Regardless, it is expected to be a highly sought-after piece of hardware.
Aggressive marketing to combat loss of reach
This move marks a significant strategic shift under the new leadership of Asha Sharma. Microsoft is directly responding to the changing market share of the current console generation, where the PS5 dominates. Distributing free hardware to the core community serves purely as a PR tool to strengthen brand loyalty and attract influencers to the platform.
At the same time, Microsoft is correcting the blurring of its platform boundaries. With the announcement that upcoming titles like "Gears of War: E-Day" and "Clockwork Revolution" will be console exclusives for Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft is returning to classic software-based sales incentives. The free hardware visually reinforces this strategy.
Technical nostalgia without performance gains
The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition It's based purely on visual modifications. The casing is made of transparent green plastic, reminiscent of the casing variations of the original Xbox from 2001. When the console is switched on, the "X" logo on the front lights up green. Included in the box is a color-coordinated controller with a transparent back case and the classic, colored ABXY buttons.
The technical specifications remain unchanged. The system uses the familiar custom Zen 2 CPU, the RDNA 2 graphics unit, and the integrated 1-terabyte NVMe SSD from the standard console. There is no performance increase in this case.

The free hardware giveaway only applies to a few hundred visitors in Los Angeles. For the average consumer, the Xbox Series X 25 will remain a purely collector's item in November, offering no real gaming benefit. Anyone who already owns a working Series X will find no technical reason to upgrade. Microsoft is simply using this promotion to buy cheap reach through influencers. Nothing more, nothing less.
