While good news keeps emerging for 'GTA Online' on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the outlook for the last-gen versions is increasingly bleak. As Rockstar announced today, DLC support on the older platforms is ending immediately, meaning no new content is expected there.
In a statement, the developer explained that the technical capabilities of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 had been exhausted, making significant updates such as upcoming Freeroam Events or the Rockstar Editor no longer feasible. They further stated that they had consistently optimized the game to get the most out of the hardware, but eventually reached a point where it became unstable, forcing them to stop.
Details about the next major update, which will no longer be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, can be found here. read here.
(Update)
Rockstar is currently sending out discount codes for the PSN to players who are still actively playing GTA V on the PlayStation 3. This is intended to further encourage the upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version.
