Even before the advent of the "home office" era, it was common to spend more than just a few hours a week sitting in a chair getting things done. Whether it's for comfortable work from home or an hours-long gaming session – without a decent chair, both can quickly become a real test of endurance.
I've learned the hard way in the past that a gaming/office chair is definitely the wrong way to save money. Big package, minimal effort
The package arrived while I was at work, and it wasn't long before the first messages started pouring into my family WhatsApp group asking what on earth I'd ordered. Three people struggled to get the package into the house, less because of its weight than its unwieldy size. And indeed, it's probably the biggest package I've ever received. Once you've managed to get the whole thing (best in pairsOnce everything is in the designated destination room, the strenuous part is already over, as the subsequent setup is very easy.
The first thing you notice when taking it out of the box is the quality of the individual parts. Of course, the price has to come from somewhere, but I've definitely seen much worse. All the parts arrived undamaged and are extremely easy to assemble. Basically, you just have to slot a few pieces together, screw in a screw or two, and the thing is ready. You can't really go wrong at this stage, so once you've finished assembling it, the next question immediately arises: What does the thing actually look like?
Between high-tech and simplicity
To be honest, when I first saw the chair in a picture, I wasn't really convinced by the design, but I thought, "What the heck." However, as soon as I took the parts out of the box for the first time, I realized this design was more than just well-thought-out. Of course, the pattern is a matter of taste, but its simplicity and yet individual touch really appeal to me. And this impression doesn't end with the pattern. The feet/casters look absolutely high-quality, the design of the backrest, especially from behind, looks like a real spaceship seat, or a new kind of Transformer, and quite frankly, the Flexispot logo isn't bad either, although it could have been a bit smaller. The seat also doesn't take up much space, so it fits perfectly into my admittedly already very black gaming and workspace. So, the most important question remains: How comfortable is the GC5G to sit in?
What exactly is back pain again?
The primary function of a chair should normally be comfort over several hours, ideally in a way that is gentle on the body. After about three weeks of use, my impression of the Flexispot GCG5 remains the same as it was on day one: absolutely convincing. The backrest is as ergonomic as it gets, and the tension can be adjusted with a crank on the left to suit individual needs. It provides good support in an upright position, but can also be easily and significantly reclined into a more comfortable or relaxed position. However, the backrest is where one of the product's two drawbacks lies. The adjustable lumbar cushion has occasionally bothered me whenever I've shifted my sitting position too much. While it's possible to adjust the height of this cushion, doing so repeatedly is not only tedious, but the height adjustment mechanism isn't ideal and sometimes requires a fair amount of force.
Besides the very comfortable headrest, the seat is also height-adjustable. While it's comfortable, this indirectly leads to my second negative point. My desk is relatively low, so I usually sit (and enjoy sitting) quite low. So, when I sat down in the chair and lowered it using the right lever, the question arose: "Can't it get any lower?"And no, it can't go any lower. This will probably be a problem that only affects a few people, but I've had to get used to a height that, even after weeks, isn't ideal for me. So the only solution is a height-adjustable desk. Luckily, there are suitable ones available. GT3, GT5 and now also the GT6 model from Flexispot.
The impressive freedom of the armrests, which are not only height-adjustable but can also be rotated in all directions and angles, at least partially compensates for this inconvenience. And generally speaking, the two minor drawbacks are negligible compared to all the advantages this seat has to offer. It should now be fairly clear that the Flexispot GC5G gaming seat is among the very best – but I have one more point. The chair is so incredibly quiet when rolling, sitting, tilting, and moving that, given my history with noise, I could cry with joy. Of course, this needs to be monitored, as it's impossible to predict how these aspects will develop after months or even years. Nevertheless, it's certainly worth mentioning.
