For the video game adaptation of the 2013 PlayStation hit "The Last of Us," the cast has been expanded to include actress Storm Reid, known from "Euphoria" and "A Wrinkle in Time." She will thus star alongside already familiar faces such as Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
The film, like the Naughty Dog video game it's based on, is set in a world where humanity was wiped out by a deadly virus 20 years prior. Joel (Pascal) is a survivalist tasked with smuggling a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Ramsey) out of a quarantine zone run by the Fireflies, a research organization working to find a cure. This sets off a brutal and emotional journey across the USA, during which a unique relationship develops between the two characters.
Reid will play the orphaned Riley Abel, who fights her way through the apocalypse alone in Boston and made her first appearance in the game's "Left Behind" DLC. There, she had a small storyline with Ellie, during which their shared struggle for survival turned them into best friends.
Other members of the confirmed cast include Anna Torv, Merle Dandridge, Nick Offerman, Nico Parker, Gabriel Luna, Jeffrey Pierce and Murray Bartlett.
The first episode will be directed by Kantemir Balagov, who is collaborating with Sony Pictures Television on this project. It is being produced by PlayStation Products, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and of course, Naughty Dog itself.
As mentioned previously, the young Storm Reid first attracted attention with projects like "A Wrinkle in Time" and "Euphoria," but she also appeared in several other major productions such as "The Invisible Man," "The Bravest Knight," and "The Suicide Squad." Aside from The Last of Us, she has other interesting projects lined up.
