Arrowhead announces major changes for Helldivers 2: New campaigns, better rewards and public beta tests are coming this summer.

Developer Arrowhead is responding to ongoing criticism from the Helldivers community and promising significant changes to progression and Galactic War in "Helldivers 2" this summer. In addition to more transparent patch notes and public beta tests, the focus will be on more meaningful rewards and new vehicles.

The Galactic War in “helldivers 2“Starting this summer, the game will be massively enhanced with multi-week, themed campaigns and more noticeable consequences. Arrowhead acknowledges that the previous system lacked depth. The developers have significantly expanded the meta-progression team to finally give players a reason to dive into the intergalactic battles again.”

Progression and campaigns

The previous Major Orders often felt like isolated tasks without long-term impact. That's about to change. The new "Campaigns" will span several weeks and offer branching storylines that react directly to players' success or failure. Most importantly, the rewards will be more varied. Those who miss the old days when Stratagems could be unlocked directly through community events can breathe a sigh of relief – that mechanic is returning.

A sore point for the community was the "hidden changes"—adjustments to weapons or enemies that weren't mentioned in any changelog. Arrowhead has promised improvements. Patch notes will not only be more comprehensive in the future, but will also explain the design philosophy behind balance changes.

To avoid frustration caused by botched patches, the developers are also considering introducing public beta tests. The game's balance will be refined in collaboration with players, without spoiling any story surprises.

Vehicles and the Warbond Controversy

The criticism of the exosuits in the paid "Exo Experts" Warbond has been received. Arrowhead has clarified that while themed bundles remain important, new vehicle types can still be unlocked through normal gameplay. This addresses concerns about a paywall for essential hardware. At the same time, work is underway to expand the ship modules and raise the level cap beyond 150 to offer long-term players new objectives.

Arrowhead isn't delivering empty marketing fluff here; they're pinpointing the players' pain points. The fact that they've expanded the meta-progression team is a necessary signal. However, success hinges on the implementation of the summer campaigns. If they remain simple text boxes, the effect will be lost. But if the impact of the battles becomes truly tangible, both visually and in terms of gameplay, on the star map, Helldivers 2 could get a second wind.

What feature do you currently miss the most to make the Galactic War truly exciting again?

First, I want to say I love HD. When I play HD games with friends, it's always mega fun.
New campaigns would be great. The problem is game bugs. For example, SeaF often can't complete the secondary objective. So forget Warbonds. The game bugs are more annoying.
