Helldivers 2 will receive a comprehensive technical update on May 27, 2026, with native upscaling support for all platforms, and will simultaneously announce an official collaboration with Warhammer 40.000. PS5 Pro users, however, will have to make do with PSSR 1 for the time being.
In addition to the technical overhaul, Game Director Mikael Eriksson also confirmed an official Warhammer 40.000 collaboration, which will be released later this year in the form of a "Legendary Warbond".
Upscaling standards and native resolution upgrades
The update for “helldivers 2"This patch integrates the latest versions of common upscaling methods to stabilize the shooter's sometimes unstable frame rate when facing high enemy density. PC players gain access to Nvidia DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 3.1.5, and Intel XeSS 3.0. FSR 4.0.3 is also implemented on supported high-end GPUs. For consoles, the patch marks the end of the limited, proprietary upscaling solutions."
The PS5 Pro will utilize PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR 1) starting May 27th. The standard PlayStation 5 models and the Xbox Series X will switch to AMD FSR 3.1 – an upgrade to PSSR 2 is expected to follow. This change is accompanied by an increase in the internal target resolution. In Performance mode, the PS5 and Xbox Series X will now render at native 1440p instead of the previous, often blurry reconstructions. This finally delivers sharper images.
Frametime stability through VRR and shading optimization
Arrowhead also counteracts its hardware-intensive gameplay with three primary software mechanics. Variable Rate Shading (VRS) selectively reduces the calculation of shading in peripheral or low-detail image areas to lower the GPU load without compromising visual quality in the center of focus.
Additionally, integrated Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS) on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC mitigates extreme performance drops by dynamically adjusting the resolution in fractions of a second. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is also enabled for PS5 and PS5 Pro. This eliminates screen tearing and minimizes noticeable stuttering when vertical synchronization is enabled. Nixxes is clearly making significant adjustments to the engine here.
The Warhammer crossover: a core review
The announcement during the "Warhammer Skulls 2026" event shifts the focus to the second half of the year. Arrowhead is delivering the first external franchise crossover with "Legendary Warbond." Details regarding armor, weapons, or specific factions like the Space Marines are completely absent from the Game Director's transcript. The teaser only mentions the release later in 2026.
The patch on May 27th is a more significant gameplay event than the Warhammer announcement. The integration of DLSS, FSR 3.1, and PSSR resolves a major technical issue that has plagued the shooter since launch. Players on all platforms will experience higher FPS with improved image stability and significantly reduced input latency. The Warhammer crossover will then provide the necessary content. Arrowhead is fixing the foundation before expanding. That's the right priority.

…brings PSSR & Warhammer crossover, Warbond. Why?? What's the point if the game is buggy, and still is, after 2 years!
They can't even fix the small bug.
To be fixed on the ship. Host's name not visible.
A huge bug fix update would be much more important!!
