“Hellraiser: Revival” breaks with tradition: The legendary Lament Configuration faces competition in the new survival horror title from Saber Interactive from the Genesis Configuration, which serves as a powerful weapon.
The gameplay footage released today shows that the iconic puzzle box no longer just summons hell, but is actively used by players in the fight against Cenobites and cultists.
The new power in the labyrinth
The Genesis Configuration shifts the gameplay focus away from the pure helplessness of classic horror games. The gameplay shown demonstrates a direct link between the combat system and level design. Outside of combat, the box manipulates the architecture of the infamous labyrinth to reveal new paths or solve puzzles in the mortal world.
In combat, the artifact transforms into a brutal all-purpose weapon. By dispatching enemies with brutal executions, the character collects their "suffering." This resource recharges the box's abilities. The trailer showcases the use of telekinesis, which hurls saw blades and rail spikes across the room, as well as pyrokinesis and the iconic Hell Chains that tear enemies to shreds. The dynamics are strongly reminiscent of a darker version of "Control" or "Dead Space," set in the Barker universe.
What this means for the Hellraiser feeling
The action-packed gameplay in “Hellraiser: Revival“This could scare off purists of the series. Hellraiser has so far thrived on the psychological powerlessness and inevitability of the Cenobites. Now that Pinhead's chains can be cast as a separate ability at the touch of a button, it fundamentally changes the dynamic. The result is less classic survival horror and more of a brutal action-horror game where the protagonist's resilience takes center stage.”
Saber Interactive needs to strike a balance here. The impact of Earth's weapons and the sheer force of the chain attacks appear extremely powerful in the trailer. If the hit feedback remains this precise in the final game, the combat system will gain depth. However, there's a risk that the Cenobites will be reduced to mere cannon fodder by the immense power of the Genesis Configuration, and the menacing atmosphere will suffer.
The new gameplay direction remains a slight risk for now. The integration of the box as a gameplay mechanic for puzzles and combat is cleverly implemented and sets the game apart from generic shooters. Whether the story, revolving around rescuing one's true love from the Cenobites, can be convincing remains to be seen. The focus is clearly on action and gore, which should appeal to genre fans but could divide hardcore Hellraiser enthusiasts.

I'm not even going to watch it... maybe later... I don't know... I don't want to spoil it for myself xD
Beautiful collector's edition, pre-ordered a long time ago… I'm really looking forward to it. This will be something "different"... I hope they really have the guts to follow through with it...
Note regarding the news:
As far as I understand, you can't kill the Cenobites anyway. Pinhead, Chatterers, etc., hunt you down or "work" with you, or against you. You only kill other people who are out to get you, or human-monster-mutant-demon-whatever...
the section:
"However, there is a danger that the Cenobites will be reduced to mere cannon fodder by the enormous powers of the Genesis Configuration."
That would then be irrelevant. It's certainly true that the horror atmosphere could suffer, but I think it won't be a walk in the park and there will definitely be some challenges.
