Hideo Kojima and his team at Kojima Productions are celebrating a decade of independent studio work this month, and fans have something to look forward to. Just before the Tokyo Game Show 2025, the studio is inviting everyone to... a special anniversary event“Beyond the Strand” will be in Tokyo on September 23rd. For those unable to attend in person, the event will also be live-streamed. New insights into the studio's upcoming projects are expected.
OD – Kojima's horror ambitions on Xbox
Kojima Productions has been operating independently since 2019, starting with Death Stranding and most recently with the sequel to this unusual open-world experience. The studio is now working on... OD, an ambitious horror project in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. Details are still scarce, but the direction is clear. Kojima wants to challenge players once again and deliver an atmospherically dense, narrative experience that transcends classic genre boundaries. For fans of Kojima's penchant for the unconventional, this means: suspense, puzzles, and story elements that won't soon be forgotten.
In parallel, Kojima has announced another project: PhysAccording to official information, it is a “brand new, original IP“In the action-espionage genre for PlayStation. Kojima himself has admitted that development could take up to five or six years, an indication of the attention to detail and ambitious design likely behind the project. For players, this means both patience and anticipation: those familiar with Kojima's style know that this wait could be worthwhile.”
Reflection and new priorities
Kojima's personal motivation is also interesting. In interviews, he has explained that his experiences during the pandemic, a serious illness, and eye surgery changed his perspective on creative work. Now in his sixties, he is consciously considering his remaining time, both for games and films. This gives OD and Phys an additional context. Both projects not only carry Kojima's vision, but also his personal urgency.
Ob OD or Phys Whether Kojima's studio will set the tone for the next decade remains to be seen. One thing is clear: the studio will continue to be a guarantor of original ideas that break new ground. For gamers, this means it's worth paying close attention when the curtain is lifted a little in September.
