Despite the numerous multimedia features that the PS4 offers, the console is designed from the ground up for gamers, as Sony's President Kaz Hirai has now emphasized once again.
This is a bit of a dig at the Xbox One reveal, at which Microsoft presented its new console as an all-in-one device, a strategy that Sony had initially also pursued with the PlayStation 3, but which was not successful.
Hirai believesThe primary market to reach with any new platform must be that of gamers. They support the platform and help build the hardware base. Nevertheless, the PS4 will feature non-gaming applications, which will only be launched once the PS4 has proven successful as a gaming platform. With the PS4, the focus will be on gamers and beyond, but gamers come first.
