After Square Enix revealed initial information about the new episodic format of 'Hitman' last night, today we are releasing more comprehensive details about what fans can expect in the coming months.
By adjusting the release model, HITMAN will be released as an episodic AAA gaming experience that will be continuously expanded by the developer.
In this creative stealth-action game, players eliminate powerful and well-known targets in exotic locations around the world, starting with the prologue and the Paris setting, available on March 11. The next setting, Italy, arrives in April, followed by Morocco in May. Subsequently, regular monthly expansions will be released, including three more locations in Thailand, the USA, and finally Japan. In addition to these monthly updates, weekly live events and additional content will keep players engaged.
"We have decided to consistently release HITMAN as a true episodic gaming experience.", according to Hannes Seifert, studio manager at Io-Interactive. “Firstly, this gives us the necessary time to polish each location in the game to the quality level we've come to expect from Hitman. But above all, it was important to us to create a living game world that will grow and evolve over time, thus laying the foundation for the future. This is the first game in an ongoing storyline that will be continued and expanded by future Hitman games.”
With the new Intro Pack, which includes the "Prologue" and "Paris" levels, players can now immerse themselves in the world of HITMAN for the suggested retail price of €14,99. Each additional location will be available for €9,99. Alternatively, players can purchase all further content with the Upgrade Pack for €49,99 or buy the complete experience directly at launch for €59,99. This includes all content released this year and guarantees access to all live events and bonus content. A boxed version of HITMAN will also be released in stores at the end of 2016.
In addition, a Collector's Edition of the game will be released, which can be pre-ordered soon and will be available in March. This includes:
- The complete HITMAN experience as a digital download
- A Premium Collector's Edition Box
- An approximately 25 cm tall Agent 47 "Chess Master" statue
- A 60-page hardcover art book, compiled by Art Director Jonathan Rowe
- A set consisting of Agent 47's classic red tie and matching pin.
On PlayStation 4, players get exclusive access to the “Sarajevo Six”, six additional Contract missions, one for each location, in which Agent 47 travels around the world in a separate side story to take down six former members of the paramilitary CICADA unit.
For players who want to experience HITMAN before its official launch, the HITMAN beta will be available on PlayStation 4 starting February 12, 2016, and is open to all those who pre-ordered the game. The HITMAN beta takes players 20 years back in time to a secret ICA facility used for recruiting and training new agents. This unique mission reveals how Agent 47 was recruited by the ICA and first met his contact, Diana Burnwood.
Hitman starts on March 11, 2016.
