HYENAS development surprisingly halted

Although presented at Gamescom this year, the loot shooter HYENAS SEGA and Creative Assembly have surprisingly discontinued the project. SEGA explains why below.

The developer and publisher announced extensive restructuring measures today, which will result in the cancellation of several projects that apparently lack potential for success. In addition to HYENAS This also applies to some unannounced projects.

In a short Statement SEGA explains:

“In response to the lower profitability of the European region, we have reviewed the title portfolio of each development base in Europe and the resulting action will be to discontinue ‘HYENAS’ and some unannounced titles in development. Accordingly, we will write down work in progress on titles currently under development.”

A specific reason cited is the change in the business environment surrounding the consumer sector, including a reactionary decline due to demand, working from home during COVID-19, and the economic downturn due to inflation in the European region.
