According to an official audit report, the French development studio Don't Nod Entertainment faces the complete depletion of all its cash reserves by November 2026 due to a lack of new funding.
The figures from the latest audit reveal the studio's financial foundation without any PR spin. As of April 7, 2026, the studio, known for Life is Strange, had liquid assets of approximately €8,8 million. Based on management's own projections, internal financing needs will completely deplete this sum in the coming months. Without fresh external capital, operations will cease by late autumn of this year.
Tencent's cancellation and blocked deals
The biggest lever for a rescue has already disappeared. The Chinese tech giant Tencent, also Don't Nod's largest shareholder, has officially refused to participate in a short-term capital increase. The major shareholder is also refusing to co-finance projects currently under development.
Although management has been negotiating with other well-known publishers in the games industry for months, they were left completely empty-handed at the end of May 2026. Relevant contracts or binding offers simply do not exist.
Emergency plans put to the test
To avert the impending collapse, studio management is resorting to classic restructuring measures. The budget for the internal title "Project P14" is being drastically cut, while the release date is being brought forward to 2027. Additionally, the studio is attempting to generate short-term revenue through traditional work-for-hire projects for external brands.
There is also hope that the recently released (April 2026) sci-fi adventure game "Aphelion" could be made more commercially attractive through subsequent measures. The problem remains implementation. The auditors state unequivocally in their report that all countermeasures have so far not progressed beyond the discussion stage. Not a single rescue deal has been signed.
For gamers, this development poses an acute threat to ongoing and announced projects such as "Lost Records: Bloom & Rage" or "Project P14". Don't Nod overextended itself with an aggressive multi-project strategy, while the commercial successes of the recent past failed to materialize.
Those waiting for upcoming titles from the studio must now expect budget cuts, unfinished releases, or in the worst case, the complete cancellation of projects.
