Naughty Dog wanted to leave crunch behind. At least that's what it sounded like. The Last Of Us Part II So. More producers, better planning, less wear and tear. The current Bloomberg report zu Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet It now tells a different story, and it begins uncomfortably early in the development.

Insiders report that large parts of the studio were required to work mandatory overtime for seven weeks. At least eight extra hours per week, capped at a total of 60 hours. This wasn't voluntary work, but a documented obligation. The goal was an internal demo that had to be finished in time for a Sony review in December. Apparently, several deadlines had been missed beforehand, and the schedule had gone off track.

Crunch not for the finale, but for a demo

The crucial point is not just that there was crunch, but when. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet According to Bloomberg Currently expected to be released in mid-2027That's still about two years away. Crunch at this stage doesn't indicate a final sprint, but rather structural problems. Scope, resources, leadership – something isn't working properly somewhere.

In addition, there was a stricter attendance requirement. Instead of three days, employees had to come into the office five days a week. For many, this meant short-term reorganization of childcare or eldercare arrangements. Sony and Naughty Dog have not commented on this.

Old patterns, new promises

Naughty Dog is considered one of the most prestigious studios in the industry, and at the same time one with a historically high workload. Following the burnout of many employees around The Last Of Us Part II In 2021, the studio reacted by implementing new production teams and clearer processes. However, according to insiders, many of these key individuals have since left. What remains is a familiar pattern: when the plan fails, time is wasted.

A particularly bitter internal detail, as described by Bloomberg, involves employees receiving metal coins bearing a quote from the... intergalactic-Trailer: “The suffering of generations must be endured to achieve our divine end.” Intended as an ironic comment? Possibly. As an unintentional statement on the current work culture, it seems more apt than the studio would probably like.

Brief all-clear, no solution

The acute crunch period is now over. The demo is finished, and office life is returning to normal for the time being, at least until the end of January. But within the studio, concerns are growing about the final year of development. If even an internal demo requires such measures, the question arises as to how the final release can be achieved without renewed pressure.

Is still Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet It's not a problem. But the early crunch is a warning. Not about the game's quality, but about the price that might be paid for it. And this is precisely where Naughty Dog needs to deliver better than with their old habits.

Should Naughty Dog decide to include Tati Gabrielle in her role as Jordan A. Mun on the art cover of the finished release version, the developers and investors based there will have a completely different problem than pre-ordered overtime.

In addition to the already undeniably prominent problems within the reputation of the studio and its, to put it cautiously, "actress", even a large proportion of impulse buyers who previously had no knowledge of specific controversies will steer clear of the product in the digital store and on the last remaining sales levels.

For obvious reasons of intuition and clear thinking.

Even mandated overtime hours won't help in meeting the deadlines set by investors or in maintaining alleged quality standards.

Aside from that, as a consumer, I don't support any company that legally forces its employees to jeopardize their own health years in advance, just to comply with the greedy demands of the suits on the upper floors within a toxic work environment. I'm quite certain that this mindset and attitude will become increasingly established and entrenched in the coming years.

Then we'll see what the final result will be.
