Actor Troy Baker has spoken in more detail for the first time about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Baker has spoken about Naughty Dog's next big project, which takes creator Neil Druckmann in a completely new direction. In an interview with ComicBook, Baker discussed his return to the studio and the creative exchange with Druckmann, and apparently the familiar back-and-forth between the two is flowing as usual.
Naughty Dog is aiming higher, this time into space.
Our preview of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Naughty Dog is leaving Earth for the first time. The studio, which with Uncharted and The Last of Us Having set the bar for narrative games, the studio is venturing into a science fiction universe centered around a bounty hunter pursuing a criminal organization on a remote planet. The project is considered the studio's most ambitious departure to date from its familiar story-driven formula.
Many fans had instead opted for The Last of Us Part 3 Hopes were high. But Druckmann seems to want to realign the studio – away from sequels and towards more creative, original worlds.
Baker and Druckmann: "Our thing is to clash."
Baker, who in the past has played central roles such as Joel (The Last of Us) or Sam (Uncharted 4He doesn't play a leading role this time. That doesn't seem to bother him at all; quite the opposite. "Neil and I will probably never stop arguing.", said he grinned. "That's just our thing. We had another one of those moments just two weeks ago – during the table read. And everyone thought: 'Our parents are arguing again!'"
For Baker, creative friction is not a problem, but part of the process. "Today I enjoy being a part of the whole more than being the center of attention," he further explained. "After so many years, I understand the processes better. The process has become more important to me than the recognition."
From Joel to George Clooney
Instead of eyeing the next leading role, Baker now looks to actors like George Clooney for guidance – versatile, reliable, respected. "I want to do projects that people simply enjoy working with me on.", Baker said. "If everyone feels at the end that I have helped to make the game better, then I have done my job."
When Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet The future remains uncertain. Naughty Dog aims to demonstrate once again that storytelling works beyond the familiar confines of Earth. With Baker's return and Druckmann's creative leadership, the project is likely to once again strive to elevate narrative games to a new level, this time with stardust instead of cordyceps.
