The future of the video game industry can only be roughly estimated at present; in the long term, dedicated and stationary hardware solutions will probably disappear.
Assassin's Creed designer Jade Raymond sees interesting possibilities in cloud gaming, which will make things possible that are currently hard to imagine. Of course, there are also certain limitations to this technology, especially regarding costs, as it requires servers, infrastructure, etc. – but if these can be overcome, there are virtually no limits to the development of future games.
Raymond envisions, among other things, real-time physics calculations, realistic game worlds, thousands instead of just hundreds of AI characters, or millions of players thronging a single court. Whoever manages to make this a reality first will... according to Raymond to have a gigantic success with it.
Either way, she sees the future of AAA titles in the cloud, as there will be so many creative possibilities and so many ways to reach people that it will inevitably come down to that.
Sony will certainly play a pioneering role in cloud gaming again, having already established a functioning service with PlayStation Now, which is now being continuously expanded.
