The problem of motion sickness in VR games is still present, especially in games where players can move around completely freely.

Therefore, developers are constantly trying to find new approaches and solutions to counteract this problem. UNIVRS, the developers currently working on 'Little Witch Academia VR Broom Racing', have apparently found a new way to completely eliminate motion sickness.

Initially, they experimented with existing techniques, but encountered certain obstacles that they wanted to avoid. Little Witch Academia VR Broom Racing will therefore be the first game to use a brand-new approach, which they explain as follows:

The idea is that the player consciously moves through in-game interactions, thus bringing the physical component back into play. This approach would liberate the mind and prevent motion sickness from arising in the first place.

In the game, this looks like the players racing, using their magic, the speed is constantly adjusted, and the player is fully aware of this dynamic.

Whether this will actually work well in practice remains to be seen. Little Witch Academia VR Broom Racing will be released in 2020.
