Developer Slightly Mad caused quite a stir this year with their own high-end console. Mad Box It was presented, but its future is currently not so good.
It starts with the name itself, for which trademark protection couldn't be obtained due to concerns about potential confusion. Slightly Mad has since withdrawn the trademark application entirely, as has now been revealed. Whether the console will receive a new name remains to be seen, and not solely due to the lack of a name.
Investors are already backing out again.
The main problem for Slightly Mad is that two key investors pulled out of the project after Google unveiled its Stadia streaming platform. This suggests that console hardware doesn't have a real future, especially alongside the PS5 and the next Xbox, against which the Mad Box would face stiff competition anyway.
Slightly Mad is still sticking to its plans for the box and is currently looking for new investors who need to raise around $1.2 billion to make the project a reality.
