Surprise in the PlayStation Store: Mafia: The Old Country It topped the European PS5 charts in August and even managed to reach third place in North America. What's remarkable is that the title wasn't a critical darling, but rather described by many reviews as "Solid, but unspectacular“ was classified.
Nevertheless, the game has reached the masses, apparently with a strategy rarely seen in recent years: a manageable playtime and an affordable entry price. In times when many blockbusters cost 70 euros and offer 60 hours of gameplay, this strategy seems to have struck a chord.
PlayStation Store Charts August
Besides Mafia: The Old Country The hardcore shooter phenomenon has also emerged. Ready or Not (our review) again strongly maintained its position – 3rd place in Europe and 2nd place in North America. There, it secured Madden NFL 26 the top spot, while the sports game doesn't even appear in the top 20 in Europe.
Also new in the charts: Gears of War: Reloaded (NA: 4th place, EU: 7th place) and Metal Gear Solid D: Snake Eater (NA: Rank 7, EU: Rank 6). As always, classics like GTA V or Minecraft are still regular guests.
What Mafia: The Old Country shows us
That Mafia: The Old Country The fact that a game lands so high in the charts despite not offering a gameplay revolution is a signal. Players don't always want the biggest open-world behemoth or the most expensive AAA production. Sometimes a tightly structured story-driven game with a clear length and a fair price is enough to achieve success.
Whether this is a lasting trend or just an isolated case remains to be seen. But it could be a sign for developers. Not every game has to be gigantic to sell well.
Mafia: The Old Country It's not a perfect game, but it has shown that the classic formula for success – short, snappy, affordable – still works today. Perhaps that's exactly the kind of variety many players have been looking for.
How do you think?

The Old Country is no better than part 3. And that one was already crap. I didn't finish Old Country.
Why do you always think short games are better than long ones? It depends on the passing and how the open world or linear levels are used. With Mafia, for example, the way the world was used, they should have just made it a linear level from the start.
Yes, I love it. If games are too long, I lose interest so quickly. Linear, short, and with a great, woke-free story = the best!!
It wasn't that short at all. The PlayStation says 20 hours. Perfectly normal, I think, and the price was fair.
I can also enjoy shorter games at full price, because a long playtime doesn't necessarily make a game good. 10-20 hours is ideal for me.
