The arcade brawler "Marvel Cosmic Invasion" will be expanded with two paid expansions in 2026, while the main game has already surpassed 1,5 million players. For fans of the co-op fighter, this means concrete new content in terms of characters and gameplay.
The Thing and Cyclops expand the character line-up of “ starting today for €3,99.Marvel Cosmic Invasion“On all platforms. Publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games are using today's release of the first premium DLC to simultaneously announce a second content expansion in the fall.”
The new additions in detail
Tribute Games is focusing on a targeted expansion of gameplay dynamics with the two new characters. The Thing functions as a classic melee tank, but its high jumping mobility introduces an unexpected vertical element to ground combat. Cyclops fills a tactical gap in the existing roster. His kinetic energy beams can be fired diagonally, effectively countering enemy aerial attacks, which were often frustrating in the main game.
The price of just under four euros for two distinct characters keeps the barrier to entry low for the community. A smart move. The high Steam approval rating of 88 percent shows that the game's balance is already good.
What the autumn DLC is supposed to change
The second DLC, coming in fall 2026, will move away from a purely character-based focus and introduce a completely new game mode. Up to now, the brawler has relied heavily on the classic arcade structure in the style of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. A new mode is essential to keep the 1,5 million players engaged in the long term. In addition to this new mode, further, as yet unannounced, heroes and villains have already been confirmed for the second wave.
The DLC wave won't reinvent the genre, but it keeps the game fresh in exactly the right places. Today's character DLC provides immediate added value for established co-op teams. The real test comes this fall with the new mode. Only then will it be clear whether Marvel Cosmic Invasion can maintain long-term appeal.
Does the duo of Cyclops and the Thing fit your co-op playstyle, or would you rather wait for the new mode in the fall?
