Marvel Rivals is getting its first PvE mode with the new "Zombie Mode". Starting October 23rd, Thor, Blade & Co. will fight against hordes of the undead.

Marvel Rivals The game is attempting an experiment that fans have long demanded: a full-fledged PvE mode. Starting October 23rd, the "Zombie Mode" will pit players against an unstoppable horde of undead, rather than against other players.

Inspired by the well-known Marvel zombiesIn the series, heroes like Thor, Blade, Magik, Jeff and The Punisher take on the task of saving the world from an apocalyptic infection, at least until the next wave arrives.

What initially sounds like a classic horde mode, thanks to Marvel's typical presentation, is likely to be more than just endless hacking and slashing. According to Marvel Games producer Danny Koo, in addition to standard enemies, there are also two boss fights: Zombie Namor and The Queen of the Dead. Both are designed to force players into strategic teamwork – a welcome contrast to the chaotic PvP experience.

Each hero plays differently.

Each of the five playable characters also receives unique abilities that must be used effectively in the PvE context. Blade can hit multiple enemies simultaneously with his "Moon Blades," Thor remains permanently in his "Awakened" state, and Magik transforms into her destructive "Darkchild" form. Even the unassuming Jeff can literally plow through hordes of zombies.

Especially for players who have previously focused on PvP from Marvel Rivals Those who were previously uninterested in the previous mode might find it appealing. It allows players to focus on the mechanics, animations, and hero design without being constantly interrupted by other players.

Why "Zombie Mode" is more than just a gimmick

NetEase is not only responding to fan requests, but also opening up Marvel Rivals for a new target audience. PvE content is ideal for events, seasonal challenges, or co-op experiences with friends – something that has been missing until now.

Whether the mode will be a long-term success or is only intended as a Halloween event remains unclear. However, the mere thought of seeing Marvel's iconic heroes battle zombie versions of familiar characters is likely to attract many players.

Marvel Rivals is currently available for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, and PC. The Zombie Mode will be released as a free update on October 23rd.
