Following massive player protests, the controversial rank reset in Marvel Rivals has been overturned – the community is celebrating NetEase's swift change of heart. Will the game stay on this course?

That backfired! NetEase Games recently announced a ranking rollback in the middle of the ongoing first season of Marvel Rivals —and immediately sparked a massive backlash. Players on the official subreddit vented their anger, calling the decision "pointless" and "extremely unforgiving".

But NetEase reacted with lightning speed: Less than 24 hours after the announcement, the plan was scrapped. The players can keep their hard-earned rank – at least for the remainder of the first season.

NetEase gives in: No ranking reset in Season 1

In a new Dev Talkblog the developers admitted They admitted that they had underestimated the "pressure associated with being relegated to a lower ranking every half season." Instead, their ranking remains unchanged until the end of the season.

There are still rewards:

  • Gold-ranked players will receive the promised costume.
  • Grandmasters and higher ranks receive special honorary coats of arms.
  • The top 500 can look forward to... One Above All-coat of arms

And there are also adjustments for the second half of the season. Instead of a harsh rank reset, players now only need to play ten competitive matches to unlock new rewards. These include another gold-rank costume and modified honorary crests for the highest ranks (Heavenly, eternity, One above all).

Community celebrates turnaround

The decision not to change the system after all was extremely well received by the community. A new thread on Reddit announcing the change garnered almost 2.000 upvotes within 30 minutes. Players praised NetEase not only for quickly changing course but also for not seeking a half-baked compromise – instead, they simply did what the players wanted.

If this continues, it could Marvel Rivals It will become one of the few live-service games that truly listens to its community. Let's see how long this course lasts.
