Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal have today revealed some special gameplay scenes from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy In stock. It shows Star-Lord and the Guardians negotiating with Lady Hellbender, leader of the Hellraisers, Queen of Seknarf Nine, and notorious monster collector.
The players must decide which "rare monster"—Groot or Rocket—to sell. This momentous occasion sets in motion a chain of events that sends our band of misfits on a wild ride through the cosmos, in a battle for the fate of the universe.
Commented on by Darryl Purdy, Cinematics & Animation Director at Eidos-Montréal, it quickly becomes clear that appearances can be deceiving and Lady Hellbender may not be the cosmic monster trophy hunter the Guardians had expected.

“Lady Hellbender is an extremely popular character from recent Marvel comic history, and her appearance in our GuardnsThe universe is meant to reflect her complex personality, depth, and nature that fans expect. And since every aspect of our game is always infused with humor, this was the perfect opportunity to play with expectations within the story and create a surprising dynamic between her and a certain destroyer.”
Darryl also provides insights into the game's production, explaining the importance of performance capturing from the entire team to bring these galactic characters to life. Nearly six hours of interactive cutscenes were created for this multifaceted and completely standalone story.
