The current PlayStation Store charts paint a seemingly bleak picture for the next big Marvel epic. While remakes and sports games are raking it in, Insomniac's exclusive "Marvel's Wolverine" is completely collapsing.
“Marvel’s Wolverine” currently occupies only positions 63, 64, and 65 in the PlayStation Store pre-order charts for the PS5. A bitter disappointment for Sony and the development studio Insomniac Games, who should have had a major draw with the clawed hero.
Logan, on the other hand, is languishing in the lower middle of the pack. The standard version, the Digital Deluxe Edition, and the optional upgrade all share these disappointing positions. The community is noticeably hesitant, and pre-ordering is no longer a sure thing.

A glance at the top spots of the 99 listed pre-order titles illustrates the debacle for the mutant. "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" dominates the field as usual, and EA Sports' expensive MVP bundle with "Madden NFL 27" and "College Football 27" is also attracting pre-orders like a magnet. Even surprises like "Halo: Campaign Evolved" for the PS5 or the remaster of "Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced" are significantly more popular, but these are also nearing their release, which likely has some influence.
Even smaller or very specific titles like "Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters" or "Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve" leave Logan far behind. Players prefer to invest their money in familiar gameplay mechanics or take advantage of discounts like those offered by "Anomalith." Relying on big names alone is no longer enough.
A closer look at the current listings in the PlayStation Store, however, raises significant questions. Anyone who analyzes the backend of the pre-order charts in detail right now will discover a massive sorting mess on Sony's part. Beyond the absolute top spots, the data-driven ranking breaks down completely from position 3 onwards and erroneously switches to a purely alphabetical grid. The fact that "Marvel's Wolverine" is listed between positions 63 and 65 is therefore simply due to the initial letter "M" – a classic caching and display bug in the PSN.

Linear design raises skepticism
Regardless of this technical hiccup with the store, the debate about quality within the community remains heated. The initial euphoria following the State of Play has noticeably given way to a certain skepticism. Insomniac has announced that "Marvel's Wolverine" will feature a linear, strictly guided story instead of an open world. This completely contradicts the expectations of the long-established Spider-Man community. Many gamers want to see concrete evidence before accepting this approach.
Additionally, the Lack of a physical Collector's Edition This is causing tension among the most loyal fans. Those who are spending a lot of money want a physical box on their shelf. The purely digital deluxe version for €89,99 offers cosmetic claws and suits, but provides no real added value for collectors. It is precisely these factors that could significantly slow down pre-order sales in June.
The hype surrounding "Marvel's Wolverine" has recently suffered some setbacks. While the developers still have some time before the September release to turn things around and ramp up the marketing efforts to regain the trust of core gamers, this is a significant hurdle.

Why would anyone pre-order digital games? Unless there's something really interesting on offer. I have Wolverine on my PSN wishlist. That's enough. I'll decide whether to get it digitally or on disc in a month or two.
It doesn't matter what the charts say. I'm getting the game and going for the platinum trophy.
I still haven't pre-ordered it; I'll do it the day before. There's no reason to, since digital goods can't sell out. And by the way, I'm even waiting for leaks to see what kind of woke nonsense Sony has come up with. I don't know if the linear levels are a problem; I'm already worried about Marvel oversaturation. If you include the Spider-Man games with the Guardians and Avengers, then (sure, they're different developers) you can already see a bit of oversaturation. For me, X-Men and The New Spider-Man were the animated films that influenced me the most in the '90s (Batman only through the Nolan films and Arkham games). I was also socialized with the Marvel vs. Capcom games, but whether I really need a separate game for every B, C, D... (celebrity) Marvel character is debatable. The way today's heroes are portrayed has little to do with how they were back then. The fall from grace is huge.
That's good. If pre-orders are bad, they always release good deals before the release.
I pre-ordered Astrobot directly through PlayStation back then; shortly before release, Media Markt offered a 20-30% discount. I was too lazy to cancel at the time, but I made a note of it.
Saros was available for €45 at Media Markt shortly before its release.
I'm super excited for Wolverine because
– Insomniac has never disappointed me (except for a few strange parts in Spider-Man 2)
– the first game exclusively for adults from ins.
Wolverine, along with Batman, were my favorite childhood heroes. I used to watch the X-Men cartoons almost every Saturday morning just because of him. I've forgotten so much entertainment stuff, but some episodes still stick in my memory.
Never mind, I'm buying the disc anyway. I pre-ordered it 🙂
Could this be a store error? Apart from Fable, the titles are mostly in alphabetical order. Other news sites are also reporting on the error.
Exactly, well observed. The system behind the store charts produced a rather curious sorting mess today. Since the absolute top spots, like Assassin's Creed and Fable, were correct based on the data, the list initially appeared valid in the system. The fact that the backend incorrectly switches to pure alphabetical sorting from position 3 onwards, and only includes Wolverine because of the letter "M", only became apparent afterwards.
We updated the report approximately 30 minutes after the initial draft and clarified Sony's error in the text.
Then maybe just remove this pointless article, or add the note at the beginning and change the headline? Oh no, that headline gets clicks…
