Thrustmaster has now made the T.Flight Hotas 5 Flightstick available in the Microsoft Flight Simulator Edition for PS5, after the simulation has been available for months.
The peripheral manufacturer is using the official license of "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024" for a visual and technical update of the popular entry-level series. The system is ready to use without any configuration on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.
Technical upgrades in a plastic case
The HOTAS 5 replaces its direct predecessor and introduces a crucial change under the hood. The internal signal processing now operates with 16-bit precision, up from 10-bit. This translates to significantly finer resolution of axis movements during control. The housing retains the familiar design of the series but now features the official simulator logo and a blue, white, and black color scheme.
The button layout is directly based on the PS5's DualSense controller. A total of 14 action buttons, a rapid-fire trigger, and a digital hat switch are available. That's sufficient for the most important cockpit functions. Complex configurations still require using the keyboard. Period.
Ergonomics and flexibility for the couch
The device consists of two parts. The throttle and joystick can be separated. For desktop use, the modules can be positioned to the left and right for greater realism. When flying on the couch, the unit remains screwed together via the integrated connection. This provides stability on the lap, as the base has been specifically weighted for this purpose.
Two options are available for the rudder. The Z-axis can be controlled either traditionally by rotating the joystick or via a progressive rocker switch on the front of the throttle. For those who want more control, Thrustmaster's optional TFRP pedal system can be connected via the proprietary port.
The T.Flight Hotas 5 delivers targeted improvements at a fair price. The increase to 16-bit precision finally eliminates the inaccuracies of the old model in the centering area. Ultimately, it remains an entry-level plastic joystick. For casual PS5 pilots who want to experience Flight Simulator 2024 without the frustration of a gamepad, there are currently few cheaper all-in-one solutions. Simulation purists will continue to opt for higher-end systems.
