So far, a new storyline has been mentioned, but they're hesitant to really use the term "reboot." A bit more clarity on this came in the recent... Developer chat, in which series creator Ed Boon revealed further details, including what Mortal Kombat 1 what it should actually be like and why they are not continuing with part 12.

The most striking term was probably 'soft reboot', meaning not a complete new beginning, as it stays in the same universe, features familiar faces, but also follows a new timeline.

Boon describes Mortal Kombat 1 as follows:

"It's not a continuation of the Mortal Kombat 11 story. Even in this new timeline, the characters have completely different roles, and that's something we really wanted to emphasize and underline with our title. This is Mortal Kombat 1, a brand-new beginning where the characters are reintroduced with new roles and new relationships with each other. That's the main reason for the name Mortal Kombat 1."

Boon cites Princess Mileena, who was once created by Shang Tsung, as an example. Her role in Mortal Kombat 1 will be revealed in the new story.

Liu Kang is the new face of Mortal Kombat

Unlike the original Mortal Kombat will the face of Mortal Kombat 1 It would be the Shaolin fighter Liu Kang. Although Kang has always been part of the Mortal Kombat-series, but the defining faces so far have been Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

“Scorpion and Sub-Zero have always been the figureheads of Mortal Kombat. Since this is Liu Kang’s universe, we really wanted to shake things up – the color scheme in our key image is different. This is the first time we’ve really put him [Liu Kang] front and center.”

Liu Kang is certainly a great face to be seen in this soft reboot, which is intended to make it clear that this is a brand new Mortal Kombat and not just a sequel.

It's not that difficult.
Both endings are canon according to mk11 aftermath.
All the events have taken place, only it's a different universe, or rather, only Liu Kang and probably Shang Thung still have knowledge of the MK11 results.
Liu says in the trailer that they can either coexist peacefully as allies or must fight as rivals, because Shang Thung kills everyone in the trailer, so he has once again chosen the fate of the villain, whether consciously or unconsciously, one can only speculate.
I think it's like a kind of GoW 2018 reboot.
What I'd like to know is why large landscapes are shown; is the story mode a kind of third-person open-world quest/crypt mode?
If this graphic is released, then things will get really exciting between sf6,t8 and mk1.
