The idea of a crossover between the legendary Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter series has been floated many times, but it remains difficult to implement. Aside from the fact that Capcom would likely be reluctant to see their heroes completely dismantled, the two games are simply too different to be successfully combined.
At least that's how Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon sees it, who in an interview He said the following about it:
"There's a part of me that says 'That would be a really cool dream,' and then there's another part of me that says 'Never, there's no way to satisfy everyone with that.'"
But even if one were to aim for an M-rating or be allowed to decapitate Ryu, problems like the different gameplay paces of the two series would still arise. Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are built on completely different foundations, so it's impossible to say whether this would ever work. However, should Capcom ever approach them with a request for such a crossover, they would first conduct extensive research among players to find out what they would want from such a game.
