Nacon has once again secured the exclusive rights for WRC games until 2032 and is planning a radical relaunch of the rally series – with a new vision and great ambition.

Nacon, a name familiar to rally enthusiasts from the WRC games released between 2015 and 2022, has once again secured the exclusive rights to the official WRC video game series – this time for six seasons from 2027 to 2032. The French publisher thus takes the reins again from EA and Codemasters, who most recently... EA Sports WRC 2023 delivered a solid but controversial contribution to the genre. After Codemasters' official withdrawal from the WRCThe business is now entering a new chapter – with a promise that will make fans sit up and take notice: a complete reboot of the series.

Nacon isn't announcing a simple comeback, but rather a profound creative rejuvenation. From a "a completely new vision" The aim is to create a rally experience that appeals to both hardcore fans and newcomers. The focus is on a faithful recreation of the World Rally Championship, which players should not only drive, but truly experience.

What is behind the new vision?

CEO Alain Falc speaks of a "milestone"—and that's more than just PR spin. Between 2015 and 2022, Nacon gained invaluable experience through close collaboration with WRC teams and drivers. This knowledge will now form the basis for a radical new beginning. No rehash of old technology, but a complete redesign from the ground up. Anyone familiar with the sometimes mixed reviews of previous Nacon WRC games knows: there's room for improvement—and potential for surprises.

The new agreement with the WRC promoter is not only a contractual coup, but also a vote of confidence. Arne Dirks, WRC's marketing director, explicitly praises the studio's creative vision and technical expertise. The aim is not just to expand the rally genre, but to truly transform it – with elements that go far beyond classic stage races. A rally game as an adventure? That sounds ambitious – and perhaps exactly the spark the genre needs after years of stagnation.

New route, new opportunities

The decision to return the WRC series to Nacon from 2027 onwards comes as a surprise – and at the same time, it's perfectly timed. While Codemasters is pulling out, Nacon could use the opportunity for a genuine comeback. If the promise of a “completely redesigned projectIf this promise is fulfilled, we may be on the verge of a new beginning that finally brings back the adrenaline rush to rally racing in gaming, something it has been lacking lately. Let's just hope this relaunch is more than just a glossy trailer with a high-octane soundtrack.
