Naughty Dog is working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and is already looking for localization staff – an indication that development is well advanced.

After two decades full of adventures with Uncharted and apocalyptic drama in The Last of Us Naughty Dog is finally daring to try something new: Intergalactic: The Heretic ProphetThe sci-fi adventure was revealed at the Game Awards in late 2024 and is set to star actress Tati Gabrielle as space bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun. Since then, the project has been quiet – until now.

Localization suggests advanced development

Like current job postings (via XAs the game's progress shows, Naughty Dog is currently looking for localization specialists. This might sound routine, but it's actually a strong signal: translations and cultural adaptations usually only begin once the game is well advanced internally. This means that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet It appears to be in a late stage of development, significantly further along than many fans had previously suspected.

A 2026 release is still considered unlikely. Sony will hardly risk releasing the title concurrently with Marvel's Wolverine and GTA 6 Two heavyweight titles are set to be released, and they are already expected to dominate the gaming year of 2026. A launch in 2027 therefore seems more realistic, even though no official date has been confirmed yet.

A first at The Game Awards?

A new insight could be provided at the upcoming The Game Awards, as Druckman himself recently stated. implied has. In a post on X, he spoke of “soon“, without going into more detail.”

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet It remains a mystery, but the latest update suggests that Naughty Dog is working hard on its first new franchise in over 15 years. If the development progress is confirmed, fans could soon expect their first gameplay glimpses – a small glimmer of hope for everyone waiting for something fresh from Naughty Dog.

The character design is completely awful… Neil Druckmann should get on his agenda.

Aside from the character design, which is absolute garbage, it could be an interesting game. We'll see.

Sandro Duryn, which console? I haven't owned an Xbox since the 360. I have two PS5s, a gaming PC, and a gaming laptop, and this game is already considered a huge flop.
And if you compare the sales figures for TLOU 2 with those of the first part, you know that their price point is not well received.

Marc Wulf: Firstly, the first part has been on the market for a while, and secondly, it has already been released as a remaster, which is pushing sales even further.
You've got a great plan!

The release of a second part naturally gives the predecessor an extra boost.

Mike Gloßmann: I'm not celebrating him because he's a success for Sony; companies always want to make more money with the next installment, and Sony doesn't have that.

The numbers were good, but that was about it.

The strange 80s-style game will sell well, but not as well as Sony would like.

Mike Gloßmann You don't want to understand, you don't think like an entrepreneur.

Part 2 was less profitable for Sony, and that is not the goal of a company.

And as for Sony, they would squeeze the TLOS series dry like a tomato. Why do you think that's not the case?

Marc Wulf

Reply to  Sandro Duryn

Mike Gloßmann, I'll gladly explain it to you again. Sony, the company, wants to attract more fans with another game in the series; that's the goal of a company to increase revenue. If player numbers drop, the game can still generate revenue, but then it will be difficult to continue the series. I think you would have been happy with a third installment, too.

Marc Wulf

Mike Gloßmann explained it even more simply: if Sony had earned the money they had calculated with TLOU2, then another installment would probably appear on the market in the near future.

Opie Blackbeard, you know you can buy games, systems, etc., without using them much, right? I just happen to have enough money and I enjoy collecting them; sometimes I just test them briefly. Out of my over 100 games, I play one for weeks at a time because I enjoy my job, have a dog, a private life, and sports. See what I mean? Don't always read too much into things.
