Welcome to 2018. We hope you all had a good start to the new year, in which Electronic Arts continues to strive to provide the current 'Need for Speed: Payback' with continuous updates, which also incorporate community feedback.
One of the features players have been requesting since the racer's launch last November is the online free-roam mode, which will be added as an update sometime this year. Electronic Arts announced this via Twitter.
Online Free Roam coming 2018, Happy New Year from everyone at Need for Speed! 🎆 pic.twitter.com/Ht8cRsvQQA

In online free roam, the entire game world of Need for Speed: Payback can be explored without any restrictions; even mandatory events no longer need to be followed. This allows you to, for example, track down wrecked cars at your leisure, meet up with your crew somewhere at sunset over the valley, and enjoy all those other things that make for a relaxed gaming experience.
Electronic Arts hasn't yet revealed when the update will be available. However, it's unlikely we'll have to wait until the end of the year.
