Capcom apparently hasn't had enough of remakes yet. According to a recent leak, a new one is currently in development. Resident Evil 0 RemakeThe information comes from a report from MP1st, who cites internal sources – and that sounds plausible. In parallel, there is also supposed to be Resident Evil: Code Veronica They will be reworked. This would bring back two fan favorites from the early 2000s that have long been on many players' wish lists.
Resident Evil 0: Codename “Chamber”
The project is reportedly internally codenamed "Chamber," a direct reference to protagonist Rebecca Chambers. According to current information, the game will feature a completely new voice cast. Actor Jon McLaren – known from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy – is supposed to take on a role, presumably that of ex-convict Billy Coen.
The remake will reportedly expand the story and offer new perspectives on familiar events. The train conductor, who barely played a role in the original, is said to become a central character this time around. This could... Resident Evil 0 to gain narrative depth, something the original could definitely use.
Two remakes, two timelines
According to the leak, Resident Evil: Code Veronica It will be first in line and is scheduled for release in early 2027. Resident Evil 0 It would then follow in 2028. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but the information is consistent. with previous rumorsCapcom has had an impressive string of successes with its remakes in recent years, starting with Resident Evil 2 to Resident Evil 4Both games were celebrated for their mix of nostalgia and modern technology.
If that's true, Capcom is once again playing to its greatest strength: reinventing old games with current know-how. Resident Evil 0 It was technically ambitious at the time, but clunky in terms of gameplay. A modern remake with fresh gameplay and better storytelling could be exactly what the series needs to remain relevant.
Until Capcom confirms the leak, it remains speculation, but one that feels quite realistic.
Well, calling Zero a fan favorite is a bit of an exaggeration. It was okay, but it had its flaws, like the lack of chests or the partner system. I've never played Code Veronica; I've heard it has its problems too, so I'd rather save it for the remake. I'd like a remake of the first game from a third-person perspective with the same content as the GameCube remake, including the enemies. Please, no special consideration for fringe groups just because people have a spider/snake phobia.
Honestly, I find it incredibly annoying that they're now telling the Chris/Wesker story backwards or in a completely random way.
I really got into the franchise with the remakes and would have preferred to play chronologically. Starting with CV now is, in my opinion, absolute nonsense, but the fanboys have made enough noise about it again…
Don't even try to tell me that RE1 already has a "perfect" remake! That game is over 15 years old and plays terribly.
I'm sorry to say it, but I'm not at all happy about this publication.
At least Zero makes sense if it's done correctly.
Yes, you're right, a chronological order would have made more sense. I also think the Resident Evil 1 remake is perfect in terms of content, but as you said, the tank controls and fixed camera angles are awful. I know that's how it was back then; I grew up with it, but the standard is different today. It's technically possible to render the Resident Evil 1 remake's graphics in real time with today's hardware in a third-person perspective. However, I think Capcom deserves praise for doing it at all. You know, it's not easy to bring these old classics into the modern era without them losing their charm. For example, the Resident Evil 2 and 4 remakes did a great job, Resident Evil 3 was borderline. But at least they're putting in the effort. It's not like other developers who make a remake of a remaster of a game that's not that many console generations old and is barely 10 years old. I won't name names. ;)
It will be interesting to see if they dare to make part 5 or 6 at some point.
I believe that the content of part 5, especially the ending, should be reconsidered to determine if it's really what we want to do (Wesker).
If one dares to change that, then in part 6 there would be other possibilities to rewrite the entire plot and bring it into a reasonable lore context.
