New PS5 and PS5 Pro firmware enters beta 5.1 - Here's what to expect!

Sony is launching the S5 and PS5 Pro firmware as beta version 5.0 with new features. Here we reveal what the update contains and how you can take part in the test phase.

Sony has released a new beta version (v5.0-11.00.00.38-00-00.05.1.1) of the upcoming PS5 and PS5 Pro-Sony has released the firmware update for February 2025 and is inviting selected users to test the latest changes in advance. Anyone who has received an email with an invitation code from Sony can not only participate themselves, but also share the code with up to four friends. But what does the update bring? Here are the details.

Patch Notes: What's new in the PS5 firmware

Even if it is not a groundbreaking update, there are some useful improvements:

  • Better overview of activities:
    • Activity details are now fully displayed on maps.
    • Spoilers are still automatically hidden.
  • Unicode 16.0 EmojisNew emojis are now available in messages.
  • Extended parental control functions:
    • If the restriction level is set to "Late teens or older", communication and user-generated content are blocked by default.
    • Existing settings remain unchanged.
  • Optimized system performance and stabilityAs always, minor optimizations are intended to make the console more stable and responsive.
  • Improved user interfaceSome menus have been made clearer.

The update weighs 1,347 gigabytes and is available via the system menu after redeeming the voucher code.

Is it worth participating in the beta?

If you are looking for new features of this Firmware If you want to test it early, you can join in - but you have to expect minor bugs, as this is a beta version. Sometimes functions change or disappear completely until the final release. As usual, Sony warns that some things may not work smoothly.

There are no revolutionary new features, but there are some useful adjustments that make everyday life with the PS5 Pro more pleasant. Above all, the improved display of activities and the new emojis should prove practical for many. Anyone taking part in the beta should be aware that there may still be bugs.
