In Japan, the first retailers have just started to temporarily lower the price of the 3G version of the PS Vita in order to reduce stock levels.
According to industry analyst Michael Pachter, there is probably no need to hope for an official price reduction from Sony, which might even be implemented before the US and European launch.
"There is no chance of a price reduction", according to Pachter. "The price for the software is what I expected and marks the difference between casual smartphone games and premium console-quality handheld games. I think the PS Vita is a hardcore product and will perhaps have a hard time reaching the mainstream, especially where smartphones are competing in that sector."
In a few days, the PS Vita will make its first really big appearance in the USA at CES, and that's where it will be decided what the mainstream trade press thinks of the device, which will ultimately contribute to its success or failure.
