As had been suspected for weeks, Sony has now officially announced PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale, currently being developed by the still new Studio SuperBot Entertainment is being developed.

PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale has been in development since last year and is inspired by Nintendo's successful Super Smash Bros. The beat 'em up revolves around PlayStation heroes like Kratos, Parappa the Rapper, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, Fat Princess, Colonel Radec from Killzone, and Sly Raccoon, where up to four players can battle simultaneously in themed stages. There will be combos and special attacks of varying difficulty, allowing for creative smashes. Superbot also promises to implement professional fighting mechanics. Guest characters are also planned, though none have been officially announced yet.

The stages are taken from games like God of War, LittleBIGPlanet, Ratchet & Clank, and BUZZ! In the BUZZ! Arena, you can answer quiz questions throughout the game. The level design uses the classic 2D concept with interactive background elements, such as the Hydra from God of War or a mix of different stages. The game also runs at a smooth 60fps.

A release is already planned for next winter. More information will follow at E3 in June.
