With PlayStation VR, the somewhat unsuccessful PlayStation Move controller from the PS3 era is experiencing a real revival, which Sony is sticking to exactly as it was originally developed.

Some had expected something new or at least an update on this front as well. However, that's not the case, as Sony World Wide Studio boss Shuhei Yoshida reiterated. approvedThe PlayStation Move controller, as it is, was not only perfectly suited for PlayStation VR, it was even ahead of its time.

“Having a hand presence with VR is like a great enhancement to many VR experiences – and what we essentially need is accurate positioning and some inputs like buttons. PlayStation Move is absolutely capable of doing this. Therefore, we decided against a redesign because it simply does its job well.”

It continues: "PlayStation Move was ahead of its time. It was essentially a VR controller; we just called it a motion controller, but what PS Move really had going for it at the time was accurate positioning, which we needed as a fundamental capability for good hand controllers in VR. I believe PlayStation Move had this."

Any uncertainty about whether buying or even selling PlayStation Move controllers might be a mistake is therefore completely unfounded, as nothing will change for PlayStation VR. The packaging design might change, or they might switch to the same cable connection as the DualShock 4 controller, but Sony will not alter the technology itself.

Therefore, one should currently take advantage of the favorable opportunity to stock up on PlayStation Move and accessories, as prices are known to rise sharply again with the launch of the new hardware.
