Sony is launching a new discount campaign for PlayStation PlusThe promotion, which is being rolled out worldwide, is being held to celebrate the Lunar New Year – but for players, one thing is paramount: significant discounts on Extra and Premium subscriptions. The promotion starts immediately, but terms and conditions vary by region.
Up to 34% discount – with restrictions
The biggest deal is aimed at so-called “new subscribersIn Germany, a year of PlayStation Plus Premium costs €99,99 as part of the promotion, representing a discount of up to 34%. Users whose subscriptions expired some time ago are apparently also considered "new." Sony doesn't provide a clear definition – those affected only find out by looking at the offer page.
New PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers also receive discounts, albeit smaller ones: up to 25% off a 12-month subscription, and apparently personalized. PlayStation Plus Essential is completely excluded from direct new subscription discounts, which is in line with Sony's usual practice. Those who only want to play online or grab monthly games are out of luck with this promotion.
Existing subscribers will be at least partially retained. Essential and Extra members can upgrade their membership at a discounted rate. The jump to Premium (or Deluxe, depending on the regionUpgrading to Extra is possible with a discount of up to 34%. Essential users who want to switch to Extra can receive up to a 25% discount in some cases. The promotion apparently ends on February 26, 2026.

No renewal bonus, clear limit
What Sony deliberately doesn't offer: discounts for renewing existing subscriptions at the same tier. Those who already have Premium and only want to renew pay the full price. This underscores the purpose of the promotion – growth, not rewarding existing customers.
Anyone who wants to know which offer specifically applies must directly in the PlayStation Store Check under the subscription section. Sony isn't being any more transparent about this.
The Lunar New Year discount on PlayStation Plus is financially attractive, but clearly strategically driven. Returning players and those looking to upgrade benefit the most. Those already using Premium or who only need Essentials get nothing. A good deal, but not a gift for everyone.
