At ACGHK 2016, Sony reaffirmed that all current PlayStation VR titles and future games will run on the base PS4 and are not being developed with the Neo console in mind.
At the same time, Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that they were still not ready to talk about the PS4 Neo at this time, so fans of it will have to be patient.
"All PSVR (and future) titles will be playable on a (regular) PS4. We believe that everyone can enjoy the entertainment content on PSVR... not just gamers, but many more can enjoy PlayStation VR."
Yoshida's statement should not be confused with the idea that all PSVR games can be played normally in 2D; it refers exclusively to the performance differences between the base PS4 and the Neo console.
Is Sony planning a stealth release of the PS4 Neo?
Although there has been no official presentation of the PS4 Neo yet, rumors about a possible stealth release are resurfacing. It has been reported from various sources that the new version is expected to be released in September or early October, alongside PlayStation VR.
This is supported, among other things, by the fact that, according to Sony, all games from October onwards will support both consoles, and that stocks of the base PS4 are currently being cleared. You can practically get the PS4 for next to nothing everywhere right now. Furthermore, Sony once stated that they like Apple's style product launches, where products are always available in stores just a few days after the announcement.
However, aside from Sony's silence regarding the Neo console, it seems unlikely that the Japanese company will launch two platforms in such a short time, and that they are initially focusing on PlayStation VR. Also, the recently leaked road map This suggests that the Neo console will not be available before 2017.
However, many expect an official presentation in September at the Tokyo Game Show.
