A highly revealing survey of developers was conducted by the Japanese magazine Famitsu regarding PlayStation VR. carried out, who had some surprising answers about the VR headset.
Particularly encouraging is the fact that a remarkable 94 percent stated they are interested in VR developments, with 67 percent already in the R&D phase. While only 11 percent can currently say they will release a VR product in the future, 61 percent are exploring the possibilities in this area, despite the fact that 66 percent do not expect VR to establish itself as a mainstream product. 37 percent see the software offering as crucial for success, and 26 percent consider the price.
This is where things get particularly interesting, as 27 percent of all respondents, and thus the majority, stated that PlayStation VR will likely cost only €230. 22 percent even believe it will launch for just €155, 11 percent expect €387, and 6 percent anticipate the recently mentioned price of around €300. Since developers are already actively working with PlayStation VR, their price estimates should be considered quite realistic, even though Sony will ultimately have the final say.
Official details about PlayStation VR are expected at GDC in March.
