Sony views its PlayStation VR headset as a completely new gaming platform, which is why the purchase price will probably be somewhat higher.

PlayStation President and CEO Andrew House still cannot name a price for PlayStation VR, but the headset could potentially cost as much as the PlayStation 4.

"PlayStation VR is rewriting the history of how games are created. We are seeing a great deal of interest in it and are working in smaller teams because it is possible to create something with VR that is simple, yet still very magical."

Some retailers have already started taking pre-orders for PlayStation VR and set the price at 399 EUR; whether this price will remain the same remains to be seen.

PlayStation VR will be released in the first half of 2016.
