In Port Royale 4 – Buccaneers ushers in the age of piracy. Players vie for the reputation of the most feared pirates of the 17th century. With the new "Buccaneers" game mode in Free Play, aspiring seafarers can also lead a fearsome crew and capture ships to build a formidable pirate fleet.

Under the Jolly Roger, ship types like the pirate bark or the pirate galleon now sail, aiming to wreak havoc in the 12.000.000 km² game world of the Caribbean. As a pirate captain, players are free to target and plunder settlements along the coasts or tempting treasures on the high seas. True to the motto: “Take what you can get! – And don't give anything back."
The first DLC therefore includes more missions, additional gameplay features, a lot of piracy, and a number of new songs.
