Whether Sony's VR headset Project Morpheus will be a success or not will depend significantly on the price. However, this is anything but certain at the moment.
According to the Sony's World Wide Studio boss, Shuhei Yoshida, dismisses all price rumors as nothing more than speculation. He stated that the costs cannot yet be estimated because the final product has not been defined. Many hardware elements still need improvement and refinement; only then will it be possible to determine the production costs and the final retail price.
Sony's goal with Project Morpheus is not just to reach its core audience, but a very large number of users. This would suggest that the VR headset falls into a completely different price range than Sony's comparable HMZ, which costs well over €1000. It's much more likely that they will match the competition, the Oculus Rift, and aim for a price of $300 to $400.
