Sony promises that the PS Vita will offer sufficient protection against piracy, which was one of the biggest problems on the PSP.

Sony World Wide Studio boss Scott Rhode explained that, among other things, the new Game Cards will ensure that the new handheld is protected from this in the long term.

"That was the main focus in the early specifications of this machine. We needed something to combat piracy from day one, and that's why you can only buy the game cards in their proprietary format. This is something we believe is absolutely necessary to ensure that people can't copy the games. I mean, it's an individual security solution on each of these cards. This is something we're confident will protect us from piracy for a long time to come."

How long the PS Vita will actually withstand piracy remains to be seen. The fact is that with increasing piracy, more and more developers turn away from a platform, which is ultimately bad for everyone.
