As with the PlayStation 3, Sony is pursuing a long-term strategy with the PS Vita, which is currently designed for five to ten years.
This was stated by Sony's Guy Longsworth in an interview with Gametrailers, who plan to assess the actual success in one to three years.
"We view this as a platform that will exist for five to ten years, so we will evaluate its success in twelve, 24, 36 months."
It is currently assumed that the PS Vita will be the last handheld platform, as it is expected that future smartphones will be just as, if not more, powerful, and the market will continue to change in this respect.
