Contrary to previous reports, the PS4 Pro does indeed support the SATA 3.0 interface for hard drives or SSDs, as Sony confirmed again today.
Previous PS4 models, including the PS4 Slim, still use the SATA II specification, allowing the PS4 Pro to achieve even higher data throughput rates. These reach up to 6 Gbit/s, twice as fast as before. This translates to faster loading times, boot times, and other benefits for gamers, which is essential given the data volume involved in 4K games.
When upgrading your hard drive or switching to an SSHD, you should ensure that the specifications are utilized to the fullest extent to achieve optimal performance. However, Seagate's current favorite model is already very well equipped in this regard.
The PS4 Pro will be released on November 10, 2016.
