Although Seagate's new SSHD models, marketed under the name Firecuda, have been officially available since October, deliveries were rather slow. They were only available through roundabout channels, especially the 2TB version.
The delivery date can now be narrowed down somewhat, with availability starting next Monday. The price is the regular €120. It's currently the most sensible option when considering the price-performance ratio.
The advantages of an SSHD have already been explained in detail several times, promising an average performance boost of up to 30 percent. Even better results are only achieved with a dedicated SSD, but these are likely to be prohibitively expensive for most people. Owners of the PS4 Slim or PS3 naturally enjoy the same benefits.
We've already covered how to copy your data from a hard drive to an HDD and make the new SSHD bootable. with this link This has already been explained in detail. You can pre-order the new Firecuda model as a 2TB variant below. at Amazon.de
(Update)
The internal 2TB version is now finally and fully available. Those looking for a cheaper option should consider the... Barracuda model, which is already available for 99 EUR in the 2TB version, but comes as a pure HDD and therefore does not offer the advantages of an SSHD.
