Sony is planning a first major beta test for a PS5 firmware, for which you can register now. It appears to be the biggest update yet for the new console.
As it is on the official PlayStation Blog This means that players aged 18 and over in the USA, Canada, Japan, Great Britain, Germany, and France can apply, but this is no guarantee of being selected for the beta test. Users who have already participated in test phases and provided feedback often have the best chances.
Those who sign up will be among the first to test new features and provide valuable feedback that helps with software development. However, the exact features are not yet being revealed.
Are VRR, SSD & Co. finally coming?
However, speculation is rife regarding the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), which has been announced for over a year, as well as the activation of the SSD slot, which Sony has so far refused to use, and ALLM, which has also not yet been integrated. Even Sony's own TVs have not yet received a VRR update, which should be available concurrently.
As with any test phase, the software may contain errors, and it may be necessary to revert to the previous firmware.
"The beta system software is a pre-release version of the software that has not been thoroughly tested and may be incomplete or contain errors. It may differ from the final version and/or a final commercial version may not be released."
Further details about the new PS5 firmware will follow once the testing phase has begun. The exact launch date is still pending.
