Sony is pushing ahead with its plans for cloud gaming and has secured another patent for this, which will presumably be used on the PS5.
Specifically, it describes high-speed connections and storage that will take cloud gaming to the next level. This would be a prerequisite for ensuring games in 4K resolution and with current standards such as HDR and high frame rates.
In the patent It can be read as follows:
"One principle of the systems and methods disclosed herein is to provide close data communication between a cloud gaming server running an online video game and a cloud data storage solution, in which data currently required by the running online video game is stored in a fast data storage device and within a management server, while backup data and other game-related data not urgently required by the running online video game is stored on the slower and more cost-effective cloud storage server."
Currently, only PS4 and PS3 games, which have significantly lower system requirements, can be played via PlayStation Now. PS5 games require considerably more power and speed.
It's conceivable that Sony will include PS5 game streaming in the new PlayStation Plus service, which is currently... developed as Project Spartacus will. But officially, nothing has been announced yet.
