Sony has released a new commercial for the PS5 Pro, which, under the central slogan "Every Detail Matters", demonstrates the graphical advantages of the high-end console.

The promotional video specifically focuses on graphically intensive titles like "Ghost of Yotei," "God of War: Ragnarök," "Horizon Forbidden West," and "EA Sports FC 26" to underscore the promised razor-sharp details. The timing of the campaign is cleverly chosen, as the system follows the recent price increase and coincides perfectly with the highly anticipated release of "Grand Theft Auto 6“must provide stronger arguments for the expensive upgrade step.”

Sony responds to criticism of the price increase

In April, Sony drastically increased prices for the entire PlayStation family. The PS5 Pro now has a suggested retail price of €899,99, though many retailers aren't matching this price. The frustration of the community is reflected in the comments section under the YouTube video, where slogans like "Every price increase matters" are prevalent. Sony is now attempting to increase acceptance of this price point by focusing on visual quality.

Technically, the system has seen significant improvements since its bumpy launch. The foundation for this is firmware version 13.0, which upgraded the in-house AI upscaler to version PSSR 2. This technology, developed in cooperation with AMD, has eliminated the distracting aliasing and image noise of the first version. Thanks to more efficient reconstruction, developers can now choose lower base resolutions and invest the freed-up GPU resources in more stable 60 frames per second or enhanced ray tracing. These optimizations are directly being incorporated into the development of the upcoming PS6.

The GTA 6 factor: Is the upgrade worth it?

For undecided owners of a standard PS5, the upgrade question arises primarily in light of the upcoming release of "GTA 6". Since Rockstar Games is not releasing the blockbuster for PC for the time being, the PS5 Pro the platform on which the game is likely to achieve the best possible console performance.

Those seeking maximum draw distance and stable frame rates in virtual Miami will find it hard to beat the Pro hardware. For casual gamers, however, the visual differences compared to the regular PS5, aside from PSSR 2, remain marginal.

Thanks to PSSR 2, the PS5 Pro finally delivers the image stability promised at launch. However, the price of €900 remains a significant hurdle for minimal visual improvements. Only the actual performance of GTA 6 will reveal whether the hardware justifies this premium for enthusiasts.

After upgrading from the base PS5 to the Pro, I can say it's 100% worth it, see Resident Evil Requiem comparison PS5 base and PS5 Pro.

We have the standard PS5.

Is that already the PS6 for €900?

Matthias We chip prices. The PS6 will cost at least 1000-1500 euros if things stay this way.

I really love the Pro. With the right TV, in my case an LG OLED, it's a definite upgrade. Even so, I sold it and bought a gaming PC. Sure, it costs twice as much as a Pro, at least. But it's just more fun for me.

Then you'll have to wait even longer for GTA6. No thanks.

Since PSSR 2.0, it's more worthwhile than ever with the right hardware. I couldn't live with the compromises on the standard PS5 anymore…

Mike Ha: The PS5 Pro is ultimately a compromise compared to better hardware. Even a standard PS5 still performs its function reliably.

Mario Roth, yeah, sure. A console will never compete with a high-end gaming PC. But if you want 60fps without blurry visuals, you can't avoid a Pro…💁🏼‍♂️

Mike Ha: The Pro doesn't handle everything in native 4K/60 FPS either. That's not a problem at all; they're still games.

Mike Ha says even the Pro can't manage 60 fps in GTA6 👀😂 so why waste €900?

Markus Tölle, of course 🤣🤣🤣 PSSR2 will fix it. Sony has already confirmed it 🤣🤣 since Sony and Rockstar are currently working closely together 🤣🤣 60fps on the Pro as a result. The standard PS5 will achieve 15-30fps, since the standard PS5 doesn't have PSSR technology!

Daven Dumke would say, "Wait and see." I'm not going to buy it anyway; the story is supposed to be pretty short, and I'm not interested in the online version at all.

Daven Dumke himself, no, just because I'm not jumping on the hype bandwagon? I'm simply not interested in GTA 6, and GTA 5 is just lying around in the corner.

Thoralf Jackowski, what are you talking about, you idiot? 🤣🤣🤣 At 900 euros, the game will probably be included. The Pro is totally worth it. Especially now with PSSR2. You have absolutely no clue. 😂

Matze Kuhrt
20. May 2026 14: 34

Markus Tölle
21. May 2026 15: 52

Thoralf Jackowski: It's a matter of opinion. If you don't have a PS5, you can consider it; if you already have one, you should consider whether it's worth it unless you find someone offering a good price for the old one.

Sebastian Paul
22. May 2026 01: 48

Thoralf Jackowski, so you own a PS5 Pro and were therefore able to make a comparison between the regular PS5 and the Pro? I have a PS5 Pro and a regular PS5, which is why I can say that the difference in graphics is clear.
